Preowned. Beautiful and extremely rare Taylor “Builder’s Reserve” Tenor Ukulele handcrafted by Taylor luthier, Andy Powers at the custom shop of Taylor Guitars in El Cajon, California. Only 30 pairs of guitar and ukulele sets in the “Builder’s Reserve” were handcrafted in 2012 with 15 guitar and ukulele sets remaining in the US and the other 15 being scattered across dealers throughout the world. Taylor ukuleles are a tough find and a wonderful playing and sounding ukulele, being handcrafted rather than machine built. Andy Powers approached each build with an old craft approach, handshaping necks one-by-one and building bodies in free form by hand.
This beautiful Taylor “Builder’s Reserve” Tenor Ukulele was handcrafted of curly Hawaiian Koa wood on the face, back, and sides of the instrument. A slight dreadnaught body design was incorporated and an ebony fretboard, bridge, and headstock plate was incorporated in keeping with the tradition of Taylor’s premiere grade instruments. A 14 fret joint to the body and 20 overall frets to the sound hole design, each ukulele was meticulously handcrafted with the utmost attention to detail. Honduras Mahogany wood neck with gorgeous vine inlay on the fretboard and elegant ‘flower’ position marker inlays on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, and 17. Side-of-neck position markers for a top-down reference as well. Offset Hawaiian Koa wood top and back binding with a classic curly Maple wood rosette. Stealth geared tuners for reduced weight and smooth tuning. High gloss finish on the body with a satin finish on the neck for a smooth-to-touch feel.
These Taylor ukuleles are light in weight and built with a slightly dreadnaught body design, lending itself to a full and open sound. Excellent sustain and balance. The Hawaiian Koa wood construction gives this instrument that classic mid-range bark but with the larger body it also carries some lower end while maintaining that classic Hawaiian koa wood focus. A excellent example of a handcrafted ukulele that exhibits a great balance between playability and tone. ID#:230059.
