C.2023. Preowned. Beautiful custom Niihori concert ukulele handcrafted by luthier Akira Niihori of Ibaraki, Japan. One of Japan’s many talented luthiers, Akira embraced the build philosophies of classical guitar luthier Sergei de Jonge where he completed his training in 2011. In 2013, Arika opened his shop, handcrafting custom guitars and ukuleles for select customers that are both beautiful, emphasizing the natural beauty of the woods, while creating a beautiful sound.
This wonderful Custom Niihori Concert Ukulele is crafted from a musician’s grade set of Honduras mahogany wood on the face, back, and sides. The neck has been handcrafted from Honduran mahogany wood, transferring the vibrations back toward the body of the instrument. The instrument also boasts a simple elegance with a tight-grained Ebony wood fretboard and bridge, Curly Hawaiian Koa wood top and back binding, and a curly Maple wood rosette. The headstock has been adorned with a lovely veneer of lace wood which matches the natural color of the Mahogany body as well. Position markers on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, and 17, with a unique 14.5 fret joint to the body. Poreless matte finish for a smooth-to-the-touch feel. The instrument also boasts Gotoh open-geared tuners for smooth and precise tuning.
A full sound for a small-bodied concert that almost carries itself like a tenor. The instrument has tremendous clarity and projection with lots of midrange, lending itself to a sound comparable to Hawaiian Koa wood. The instrument is also very easy to play all the way up the neck and has perfect intonation. Highly recommended player piece from one of Japan’s hidden treasures. #260005
