Preowned. 2021. A rare Custom Mitsui ‘Pineapple’ Concert Ukulele by luthier Tatsuya Mitsui of Japan. Mitsui graduated from Osaka University of Arts with a degree in Industrial Design. Upon graduating, he worked at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. – Technical Center Design Headquarters. Since then, Mitsui has taken an interest in the art and design of recording studio work, where he has since applied his knowledge of design with his passion for the ukulele, handcrafting only a few instruments each year.
This custom Mitsui ukulele was crafted with the finest attention to detail. The soundboard was cut from a premium set of engelmann spruce, with the back and sides being a musician’s grade of Honduras mahogany wood. Gabon ebony wood fingerboard and two-piece zelkora and rosewood bridge. Honduras mahogany wood neck. Paua abalone shell soundboard purfling, rosette, and headstock trim. Matching abalone shell position markers on positions 5, 7, 10, and 12, with an accent inlay on the back heel cap of the neck in keeping with the theme of the instrument. 14 fret joint to the body for added reach in higher positions – a rare feature on a concert ukulele. Ebony wood flower inlay at the butt of the instrument, paying homage to the first generation of luthiers from Madeira. Mi-Si pick up for quick plug-and-play.
