Circa. 1928. C.F. Martin 3K Concert Ukulele handcrafted in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Martin ukuleles are amongst the most desirable ukuleles to have ever been handcrafted and offer tremendous playability and sound, even to today. This one is a remarkable as it is a larger size being a concert scale. Only 33 Martin 3K concerts were made before the modern day reissues hit the market. This is one such example and considered among some of the rarest and most sought after collectible ukuleles in the world.
This 1928 C.F. Martin & Co ‘3K’ concert ukulele can be characterized by a Hawaiian Koa wood top, back, and sides with a mahogany wood neck and matching Koa wood bridge and an extended Ebony wood fretboard. The instrument also boasts a double diamond shaped inlay on positions 5, 7, and 10, fretboard purfling lines down the center of the fretboard, and an inlaid purfling line at the nut. Moreover, a pendeloque inlay, often called a “whale tail” inlay, was also meticulously done at the butt of the instrument. Detailed multiply concentric circle rosette and outer purfling on the soundboard.
The ukulele is very well-balanced and has a wide open tone, tremendous projection, and excellent clarity and note separation. The seams and joints are cleanly connected and meticulously handcrafted and the edges of the instrument are also `soft` and easy to cradle against your chest when playing. Tonally, the instrument is incredible and would rival the finest modern-day custom ukuleles as well. Surprisingly rich deep tones with a warm and inviting appeal. Absolutely amazing! #2500017
