Maderian Machete

Known as one of the parent instruments of the ukulele, this beautiful Maderian Machete was handcrafted by Henrique Rodrigues of Funchal, Madeira. Fashioned after the work of historical luthier Octavinno Joao Nunes, Madeira’s most famous instrument maker, this beautiful machete was made of endemic woods to Madeira with some of the finest European Spruce available on the soundboard and Maderian Vinhatico wood on the back and sides. Classic Maderian scroll headstock design.

The inlay work is reflective of the longstanding traditions of woodwork on the island, a tradition that has been passed down for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, the neck has a bow in it, rendering it unplayable. The instrument could be repaired but I will leave this decision to the next owner. This instrument was never played and only used for educational purposes when I spoke on the history of the ukulele. It is is perfect for display and a perfect addition to any historical ukulele collection. Made on the island of Madeira. #240064
