New – Artist Series. Custom Lone Tree ‘Hybrid’ Tenor Ukulele. Custom Lone Tree Ukuleles are handcrafted by master luthier Steve Doreen in Lake Cowichan,  BC Canada. Luthier Steve Doreen, founder of Lone Tree Guitars & Ukuleles, lives and works in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island BC. With a focus on design innovation and great tone he builds a limited number of instruments per year but some of the most sought after full custom ukuleles out of Canada. Each piece is handcrafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, yielding both an aesthetically pleasing instrument with a wonderful sound.

Premium Port Orford Cedar wood soundboard with a gorgeous figured Myrtlewood back and sides. Port Orford Cedar is known for its remarkable strength-to-weight ratio and continues to be used for boat-building as well as decking, railing, and interior paneling in addition to being a superior tonewood for guitars and ukuleles.  It grows nowhere in the western hemisphere except in the comparatively small area along the coast of southern Oregon and extreme northern California, forming a strip about 200 miles long and rarely extending more than 40 miles inland. The back and sides, Myrtle wood, is one of North America’s most exotic woods and known for possessing tonal qualities similar to Maple wood – clear and bright with nice projection but slightly more round. Gorgeous Macassar ebony wood top and back binding with matching ebony wood bridge and bound fretboard for smooth play up the neck. Honduras Mahogany wood neck with a radiused fretboard for added relief on the wrist angle and ease of play in the higher positions on the neck. Zero fret construction at the nut of the instrument, which helps the strings rest on the zero fret and not into the nut. Side position markers have been inlaid on the side of the fretboard for a top-down perspective and quick reference. Side sound port for monitor-like experience with the sound firing upward toward the ear of the player as well as outward toward the audience. Beautiful Art Deco designed rosette for a subtle but elegant accent to the piece. Tradition Lone Tree headstock design with logo inlaid from Maple wood. Satin finish on the body and neck for smooth play. Professional geared tuners for smooth and precise tuning.

This beautiful custom Lone Tree ‘hybrid’ tenor ukulele has a scale of 18 inches and can be tuned in traditional gCEA tuning but it is also very sweet in the Bb tuning of F Bb D G, which is one full step below the standard tenor tuning of gCEA. The recordings below showcase the instrument in F Bb D G tuning. The wonderful thing about the F Bb D G tuning is that you have the benefit of a nice mellow sound traditionally offered by a baritone ukulele without the floppiness of the strings. The result, a hybrid tenor ukulele that is easy to play with a wonderful warm and mellow tone. Excellent sustain and projection, this instrument is a true joy to play. Tremendous sustain with warm, rich and complex tones. ID#240043
