C. 2001. Preowned. Beautiful Custom Kawika Concert Ukulele in excellent original condition. This piece is tremendously rare and with David Hurd no longer accepting orders Kawika Ukuleles are amongst the best sounding, most desired and rare Hawaii-made ukuleles around. Premium dark-grain Hawaiian Koa face, back, & sides. Ebony fretboard and bridge with black ebony wood binding. Hawaiian curly Koa neck. X-bracing. 14 fret joint to the body. Paua shell rosette and inlay on soundboard, fretboard position markers and bridge. This is a beautiful piece from one of Hawaii’s pioneer to handcrafted custom ukuleles. The koa is beautiful and due to it’s darker wood hues does not show as well as it does in person with all the figure in the wood. In person, it’s even more stunning! The shell utilized on the soundboard and rosette is paua shell and the color is consistent all through out. In my opinion, it’s one heck of a player ukulele and remains in near mint condition. Grover friction tuners that are surprisingly smooth when tuning.
Tonally, this gorgeous ukulele plays wonderfully and has a refined sound to it with nice volume and sustain. Very full sounding with rich deep tones, balanced mid-range notes, and crisp highs. Kawika has retired from handcrafting ukuleles some time ago. His ukuleles are amongst the most desired custom ukuleles around and rarely appear on the open market. Kawika ukuleles have a nice crisp, clean and precise tone with excellent balance & sustain.
