A factory manager for the famed Japanese guitar brand, K. Yairi, Kawakami continues his passion for beauty and craftsmanship by handcrafting a select number of custom ukuleles each year.

This beautiful Custom Kawakami Tenor Ukulele exemplifies the Japanese art of simple elegance and flowing lines, which lends it to being both aesthetically pleasing and a wonderful playing full-custom ukulele. Kawakami uses nothing but the finest woods in the world, much of which is a substantially higher grade than what is typically found on the landscape of available ukuleles on the market.

In this instance, the top, back, and sides were handcrafted from a master grade set of Hawaiian curly Koa, some of the most figured Hawaiian Koa wood available on the open market. Aesthetically, this instrument is stunningly beautiful! Ebony fretboard, bridge, and headstock top veneer. Paua or abalone shell rosette with matching paua shell inlay on the soundboard, fingeroard, headstock, back, and back center strip. In keeping with the elegant appeal of this masterpiece, the instrument also boasts a beautiful floral and scroll inlay on the fingerboard. The natural colors of the Hawaiian Koa wood contrast the paua shell and curly maple wood binding throughout the instrument. Honduran mahogany wood neck for added stability, transferring vibrations back into the sound box of the instrument for a quick and full tone. Slotted headstock design with professional geared tuners for precise and smooth tuning. “New Wave” design reveals a flowing wave incorporated into the headstock and cutaway design of the instrument. High gloss nitrocellulose finish. Professional LR Baggs 5-0 pick up for quick plug-and-play.
