Circa 2012. Beautiful Custom Kanile’a “50th State” Tenor ukulele. The commemorative “50th State” series is Kanilea’s model that pays tribute to Hawaii becoming a State in 1959. Only 50 instruments were made in this special series and this one is #38 of #50. Only the finest materials were used to celebrate 50 years of Hawaii’s Statehood.
The Kanile’a “50th State” series tenor model was designed with both the musician and aesthetics in mind and is a wonderful instrument and a stellar example of the finest work of Kanile’a ukuleles. The Koa is from a private reserve at the custom shop. Premium golden colored master grade Hawaiian Koa face, back, & sides with dark vertical streaking in the wood, musician’s grade ebony wood fretboard with a matching ebony wood bridge. Matching Ebony wood top and back binding and a unique Hawaiian rosette of Kailua Beach sand found here on the island of Oahu. On the rosette reads, “Ua Mau ke Ea o ka Aina i ka Pono”. This Hawaiian phrase was adopted as the motto of the state of Hawaii, which means – “The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness”. The neck was carved of Honduran mahogany wood for added stability with the Kanile’a classic TRU bracing system are a few more wonderful attributes to this gorgeous ukulele. Matching Kailua Beach sand Kanile’a logo and “50th State” inlay on the headstock with Kailua Beach sand soundboard purfling and position markers in keeping with the theme of the instrument. Black Gotoh tuners for quick and precise tuning. UV finish with gloss body and neck. Tusq nut and saddle. The instrument has two dings on the soundboard – one below the ‘A’ string and the other on the soundboard near the waist of the instrument on the ‘A’ string side of the ukulele. Both are minor cosmetic dings that do not impact the structural integrity or the sound of the ukulele and can only be seen in certain angles with the right lighting.
This gorgeous uke also has a classic Kanile’a sound and is very responsive with a balanced mid-range, and classic Koa punchiness to it. This beautiful ukulele has personality unique all to its own with a focus on both aesthetics and tone. ID#210079.
