Circa. 2002. Custom Kamaka Concert Ukulele handcrafted by the world-famous Kamaka Ukulele Co. This piece is tremendously rare being a full custom model complete with the finest materials and full shell inlay. Custom Kamaka Ukuleles are amongst the best sounding, most desired and rare Hawaii-made player ukuleles around and tremendously difficult to come by with the company not accepting orders for custom pieces.
This beautiful Custom Kamaka ukulele boasts a gorgeous master-grade set of Hawaiian curly Koa wood on the face, back, and sides. 12-fret joint to the body with 16 overall frets to the soundhole. Jet black musicians grade Gabon Ebony wood fingerboard and bridge. Master grade Hawaiian curly Koa wood headstock plate. Refined Rosewood top binding, a gorgeous B-W-B and abalone shell top purfling with matching abalone shell rosette, and a solid Honduras mahogany wood neck for added stability and sustain are a few amenities to this rare beauty. Nitrocellulose gloss finish. The ukulele also comes equipped with Schaller professional geared tuners for precise tuning.
The ukulele has undergone meticulous restoration by a seasoned professional who is frequently contracted to do restoration on some of the world’s rarest stringed instruments; namely guitars and ukuleles. A lengthy hairline fracture on the back has been professionally addressed and cleated on the inside of the instrument, a repair to the upper bout abalone shell area was also meticulously repaired along with a small piece of the Rosewood binding, one internal cross brace replaced, and a piece of the headstock was also chipped and replaced with a matching piece of Honduran mahogany and then a Hawaiian Koa veneer wood added for aesthetic appeal. There are also numerous dings on the neck and body of the instrument which do not impact the overall playability and tone of the instrument and were left ‘as is’. Some minor touch up to the finish has also been done rather than a full refinish in keeping with the original character and appeal of this rare custom Kamaka ukulele.
Tonally, this is a classic Kamaka sound with a nice warm tone, wonderful clarity, and projection. These custom Kamaka ukuleles are quite rare and the quality of master grade Hawaiian Koa wood on this one is some of the nicest I’ve come across on a Kamaka ukulele. ID#:230123
