Circa 2012. Custom Moore Bettah Ukulele. Beautiful custom Moore Bettah tenor ukulele handcrafted by master luthier Chuck Moore of the Big Island, HI. If you’re wondering who ‘Chuck Moore’ is ~ well, then you’re probably new to the custom ukulele scene. Chuck handcrafts some of the most aesthetically pleasing ukuleles available on the market but they are also recording level instruments tonally that inspires both the professional musician and the recreational player. Ukulele enthusiasts will be hard pressed to find anything like this on the vast landscape of ukulele luthiery worldwide. Yet, here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean lies one of the finest ukulele luthiers you will ever come across – past, present, or future!
Beyond the aesthetic of the instrument and the complexity of the tones is Chuck’s passion for ukulele luthiery, the culture of Hawaii, and the beauty that surrounds him on the majestic coastline of Opihikao, HI as well as the people that he has crossed paths with over the years. Each of his ukuleles are handcrafted with the utmost care as he truly pours his heart and soul in to each build. This, in my opinion, is what makes each instrument so personal.
The theme inlay for the piece is the ‘Hand of God’ and this was meticulously handcrafted from the finest materials, which include recon stone, mother-of-pearl, and curly Hawaiian Koa wood. Matching recon stone fretboard position markers on positions 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 have also been inlaid in keeping with the theme of this beautiful piece. This wonderful custom tenor ukulele is crafted from a gorgeous Hawaiian Koa wood top, back, and sides, a macassar ebony fretboard, bridge, and top and back binding with a stylish matching end graph and heel cap. The top, back, fretboard, and headstock have an elegant white purfling for an elegant appeal. This beautiful piece also boasts a classy turquoise colored recon-stone rosette and a bone nut and saddle for clear and precise tones. The instrument has been lacquered with a Mohawk lacquer high gloss finish and buffed to perfection!
The tonal characteristics are very rich and complex tones with excellent sustain, clarity, and projection. Truly it is an instrument on a caliber that has only been reached by a select few among the ukulele luthiery community. The instrument is very well balanced all the way up the neck and without concern always has spot on intonation as well. Highly recommended collectible and musicians grade ukulele that is as good as it gets for recording artists, weekend giggers, and the uke-lovers at heart!
