Pre-owned Custom Martin Style 3 Concert Ukulele. Custom C.F. Martin concert ukulele handcrafted by the custom shop at C.F Martin & Co. in Nazareth, PA. This gorgeous and historical piece boasts appointments similar to the legendary vintage style 3 with slight customized variation.
Martin custom ukuleles are amongst the most desirable ukuleles to have ever been handcrafted out of the custom shop at the C.F. Martin factory and are only available in extremely limited numbers. This one is a wonderful example of a gorgeous custom concert ukulele with a one-piece Madagascar Rosewood back and sides and appointments similar to the vintage style 3 model.
The Custom C.F. Martin & Co ‘Style 3’ concert ukulele is characterized by a gorgeous quartersawn Madagascar Rosewood back and sides with a Adirondack spruce soundboard and matching rosewood headstock veneer and ‘whale-tail’ inlay toward the butt of the soundboard. Honduran mahogany wood neck for added stability, 12 fret joint to the body, Macassar Ebony wood fretboard and bridge with 18 overall frets to the soundhole, Maple wood top and back binding with matching Maple wood bound fretboard and headstock, diamond style abalone inlaid position markers on positions 5, 7, and 10, and professional open-geared Grover tuners for precise and smooth tuning. The instrument also prides itself with a meticulous abalone shell ‘torch’ inlay on the headstock and a 5-ply purfling accent line with abalone shell rosette for aesthetic appeal.
There is some extremely minor play wear on the fretboard but the uke remains in near perfect original condition. Original C.F. Martin & Co. hard case included.
The overall weight of the instrument varies slightly from that of the production made concert model ukuleles. This could be due in part to the subtle differences in the density of the woods or amount of abalone shell used between this full custom piece and that of the all standard concert models. The ukulele is very well balanced and all seams and joints are cleanly connected and meticulously handcrafted. The edges of the instrument is also ‘soft’ and easy to cradle against your chest when playing. Tonally, it’s a classic Martin tone; full and round with nice projection, clarity, and sustain of the instrument. A very nice piece!
