Preowned. Circa 2014. A work of art! Beautiful custom tenor Kula ukulele handcrafted by master luthier Crist Pung of the Big Island, HI. Crist handcrafts very unique aesthetically pleasing ukuleles that also play wonderfully for both the weekend musician and recreational player.
This wonderful custom tenor ukulele is crafted from a gorgeous Hawaiian Koa wood back and sides with a master grade Bear Claw Sitka spruce top for added clarity and increased mid-range and high notes. Musicians grade Ebony wood fretboard, bridge, and head-plate. Ebony wood top and back binding and white purfling lines on the face, back, and sides with stylish matching koa and ebony wood end graph and heel cap. The neck is carved from Spanish cedar and is carbon fiber reinforced for added stability. 14 frets to the body and 18 overall frets to the soundhole. Vintage bone nut and saddle, mother of pearl side dots, professional open-geared Gotoh UK-700 tuners for precise tuning, abalone or ‘paua’ shell inlay on soundboard with matching rosette and much more.
The theme inlay for the piece is of a Hawaiian fisherman as he seeks the day’s catch from his canoe. Swimming nearby is a school of ‘Mahimahi’ or dolphin fish inlaid on the fretboard and bridge. Various orientations of paua shell were used to accomplish the intricate inlay for the school of fish. Other inlay materials used with tremendous care were reconstructed stone and mother of pearl. Minor finish checking on soundboard.
Wonderful depth of tones from a Koa wood back and sides instrument with an excellent mid-range and high tones from the Sitka spruce top. Excellent sustain and projection and a true joy to play. The instrument is also very well center balanced which makes for a very comfortable instrument as you cradle it up against your body. A wonderful piece for artists, weekend giggers, and the uke-lover at heart! #230033
