This one was just completed and incorporates a very rare example of quilted Hawaiian Koa wood. It is absolutely stunning in appearance but plays even better than it looks!
Handcrafted of quarter-sawn gorgeous and extremely rare quilted Hawaiian Koa wood on face, back and sides, this set of wood is tremendously unique and is amongst luthiers and musicians alike to be considered as some of the most sought after figured Hawaiian Koa wood on the market. This beautiful instrument also boasts a musicians grade Macassar ebony fretboard and bridge, consistent with the best in recording level instruments. The top and back binding and bound fretboard are crafted with esquisite and prized Hawaiian Milo wood in keeping with the Hawaii theme of the instrument. Maple wood purfling lines for a subtle aesthetic appeal. The bound fretboard also adds for smooth play up and down the neck. Gorgeous diamond cut paua shell position markers on positions 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 for quick reference. Abalone or ‘paua’ shell ‘Honu’ inlay on headstock representing the Hawaiian sea turtle. Slotted headstock design with professional Waverly machine tuners for precise tuning, Honduran mahogany wood neck with truss rod for added stability and sustain, matching Hawaiian Milo wood headstock veneer, Molokai deer antler nut and saddle, and a high-gloss finish with a sound that rings true ‘Hawaii’.
This beauty really sings and has excellent volume and incredible sustain. The low tones are nice and long and crisp and balanced on the high end as well.
