Beautiful New Custom Koa Rhythms 4-String Tenor Ukulele handcrafted by luthier Calvin Okahara of Kailua-Kona, HI. Calvin handcrafts beautifully playing and aesthetically pleasing instruments for both the weekend musician and the recreational player in very limited numbers with only 2-3 instruments made per year.
This beautiful Custom Koa Rhythms tenor ukulele boasts a musicians-grade Englemann Spruce top and flamey Maple wood back and sides. Englemann spruce is known for its beautiful, rich, and sensitive tone and is often recommended for finger style and light flat picking. It is known to have good bass and slightly less midrange brightness than Sitka spruce. The overtones are also more brilliant in nature than that offered by Sitka spruce. The Maple wood has a very predictable dampness and stiffness and is a choice wood by luthiers for a clean and direct sound. The neck has been hand-carved from Honduras mahogany for added structural integrity and sustain and is very comfortable, gliding into higher position up the neck with ease. The fretboard, bridge, and top and back binding are crafted of musicians-grade Ebony wood with a matching Ebony end graph. This gorgeous piece also boasts an abalone rosette, abalone shell position markers on the fingerboard for quick reference, a meticulous Hawaiian fishhook themed inlay on the headstock of mother-of-pearl, and a Hawaiian ‘Ahi’ or Hawaiian Tuna’ fin in keeping with the theme of the piece. The heel cap mother-of-pearl shell has also been hand-cut and is a signature mark of Koa Rhythms Ukuleles. Gorgeous slotted-headstock. Professional geared tuners for precise tuning.
All of Calvin’s ukuleles are meticulously crafted and are rarely available on the market. Only 2-3 pieces made per year. Calvin’s instruments have perfectly set intonation and offer precise tones all the way up the neck. Nice crisp and clean notes with deep lows a balanced mid-rage with bright high notes as well.
Koa Rhythms Ukuleles are handcrafted with all the warmth of true ‘Aloha’. A highly recommended piece that rarely appears on the grand landscape of ukulele luthiery.
