Custom Keith Ogata “Uwila” Ukulele

オガタ・ウクレレ(カスタム・エレキ・テナー)

Beautiful custom Keith Ogata “Uwila” Electric Tenor ukulele. Keith has been building custom ukuleles here in Hawaii for over twelve years and this is his newest addition.

Top and back veneer is made of master grade curly maple wood and the body is made of solid mahogany wood. The neck is also made of mahogany.

The “wings” of the body are flamed maple with a gorgeous Hawaiian Koa top and back.  The pickups are single coil magnetic numbers housed in maple, positioned “tele” style.  there are individual volume controls for the neck / bridge pickups and a master tone control.  it has a balance bridge that’s height adjustable and the DR steel strings are strung through the body.

The instrument is set-up and tuned with steel strings for an exact and true electric sound. The entire instrument, including all electronics on this ukulele, was meticulously handcrafted by Keith himself making the “Uwila” a very unique and distinguished electric ukulele.

The ‘オ’ on the headstock is the Japanese character for the phonetic sound ‘O’ as in Ogata. This symbol is branded into the headstock of each ukulele and was something passed down to Keith over three generations. The character has always been the symbol  of the family business. Keith’s grandfather, who had initially requested the brand to be made, owned a small business in Hawaii selling handcrafted Japanese ‘Geta’ or ‘wooden sandals` on which he would burn this symbol into each sandal.  This tradition has continued for three generations beginning with Japanese ‘Geta’ and continuing on in its tradition with beautiful custom ukuleles.
