Rare find! Professional instrument / Rare collectors item. Custom made G-String ‘Signature Series’ Tenor Ukulele by Derek Shimizu, President of G-String Ukulele Co.
This gorgeous uke was handcrafted in October 2002 of the finest materials for Na Hoku Hanohano Award (The Hawaiian Grammy) winning musician David Kamakahi, son of legendary Grammy Award winning musician Dennis Kamakahi. The ukulele was used to record “Pa`ani with Dennis Kamakani,” and was the year this father-son duo won the 2005 Na Hoku Hanohano Award here in Hawaii. (Dennis and David later recorded for the Disney animated film, “Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch” on the song “Always”.)
Derek handcrafted this beautiful instrument of master grade Hawaiian koa face, back and sides, ebony fretboard, bridge, back center-seam ebony strip and ebony headstock cap, faux tortoise shell top binding with black-white-red top purfling, rosewood rosette and G-String paua shell inlay on the headstock. The instrument also has professional Grover machine tuners, a button strap on the back of the headstock and a Fishman Prefix “Pro-Blend” pick-up for quick and professional plug and play capacity.
Excellent playability and wonderful sustain. The tones and clarity are absolutely amazing on this instrument. Nice deep lows with well balanced mid-range and crisp highs all the way up the neck. The string action is set very well and makes the instrument a true joy to play. There are no cracks, no repairs and no needed repairs. The finish was considerably worn when I purchased the instrument from David and so I had the entire ukulele professionally sanded and coated with a new nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The intonation is perfect as well. I highly recommend G-String Ukuleles, they are wonderful instruments and are absolutely amazing!
