Custom ʻI’iwi Concert Ukulele handcrafted by luthier Charlie Fukuba of Makakilo, Oahu. This special piece is the premier model offered by ʻI’iwi Ukuleles and is defined as, the Gold ‘Master’ Series. The ‘Master’ series is a testimony to the ʻI’iwi Ukulele commitment to the finest materials and craftsmanship in skilled luthiery by one of Hawaii’s foremost custom ukulele luthiers, Charlie Fukuba.
Handcrafted of gorgeous curly Hawaiian Koa wood face, back, and sides, this full custom ‘Master’ ʻI’iwi ukulele also boasts instrument grade Gabon ebony fretboard, bridge, headstock veneer, and top and back wood binding with an elegant top and side profile maple wood purfling for aesthetic appeal. The fretboard has been radiused for ease of play and is an exclusive attribute of the ‘Master’ series. The radius on the fretboard provides added comfort on the wrist angle, especially at higher positions up on the neck. The neck itself has been carved from Honduras mahogany for increased structural integrity and sustain. Diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl markers on positions 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 add for a quick and accurate reference point to each chord. A classic ‘Poi Pounder’ mother-of-pearl rosette brings you back to a time of simplicity in ancient Hawaii. A time when the feathers of ʻI’iwi birds were gently plucked for the ʻahuʻula (feather cloaks) and mahiole (feathered helmets) of the Hawaiian monarchs or aliʻi. Here the essence of this representation is captured with a stunning Hawaiian ʻI’iwi bird and flower inlay of mother-of-pearl and abalone shell on the headstock.
Tonally, this piece is a true gem. Embellished mid-range and bass notes with excellent clarity and projection. This beauty has the sound of a seasoned instrument although it was only recently completed. Very well balanced notes all the way up the neck with spot on intonation. High recommended piece and perfect for the weekend musician and the aspiring ukulele enthusiast.
