Rare 1920s L. Nunes Deluxe Guitar handcrafted in Los Angeles, California by Leonardo Nunes, the son of one of the original three makes of the ukulele. Leonardo, having learned the craft of making ukuleles and guitars from his father, left the family business in the early teens and sought new opportunities by moving to California and starting his own business in handcrafted Hawaiian ukuleles and guitars. Leonardo only made a low number of guitars and focused primarily on ukuleles to capitolize on the popularity of the instrument aftr the Pan-Pacific Exposition of 1915 in San Francisco.
This wonderful Leonardo Nunes guitar is highly sought after by Hawaiian guitar collectors worldwide and is amongst the Nunes family of finely handcrafted instruments. It is a ‘must have’ for the serious collector and a phenomenal vintage player piece as well. The face, back, and sides are handcrafted from gorgeous Hawaiian Koa wood and this instrument boasts an elegant rope marquetry rosette as well. Musicians grade ebony wood fretboard, bridge, with snowflake position markers in keeping with the theme of these early vintage pieces. Bridge-pin set up for top-down force at the bridge, adding to the clarity and sustain of the instrument.The instrument has undergone restoration in several places, including a large repair on the side of the body.
