Allen McFarlen handcrafts only a limited number of instruments and these instruments are rather difficult to come by in the U.S. This Custom Barron River Concert Ukulele was handcrafted from a beautiful quartersawn set of Honduran mahogany wood on the face, back, and sides. Macassar ebony wood fingerboard, bridge, and headstock plate in keeping with the simple but elegant feel of this instrument. Solid mahogany wood neck consistent with premium materials used on guitars and ukuleles around the world. Art Deco theme with a burl wood inlaid position markers on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, and 17 with a rare 14 fret joint to the body and 20 overall frets to the sound hole. Matching macassar ebony wood top and back binding with a beautiful high gloss polyurethane finish. Spalted Mango and mother-of-pearl rosette in art deco design. Matching back center seam design elements with a gorgeous end graft inlay in a similar fashion.
This beautiful Custom Barron River Concert Ukulele boasts a body design that is slightly smaller than a typical body design for a concert ukulele yet possesses all the projection and sustain expected from a concert ukulele and more. A truly wonderful and well thought out design. There is a small blemish in the finish on the upper bout of the ‘A’ string that is only in the finish and does not impact the playability or sound of the instrument. Tonally, this instrument is a monster and has a sound that would rival a tenor ukulele. It is balanced, warm, and with a tremendous amount of projection and sustain, something you would not typically associate with a concert-sized ukulele. The articulation and clarity on this instrument is exceptional and it also has perfectly set intonation as well. A highly sought-after custom ukulele that is very light in weight with a great sound and rarely found in the US. ID#2500018
