1920s Leonardo Nunes Guitar – Hawaiian Koa

Beautiful and extremely rare 1920s Leonardo Nunes Guitar in refurbished condition. This gorgeous piece is only one of a few guitars handcrafted by Nunes.

Nunes guitars are tremendously rare and highly collectible Hawaiian instruments. This gorgeous piece has an ebony wood fretboard and ‘pyramid’ classic guitar ebony wood bridge. Handcrafted in the spanish style construction, the body is made out of gorgeous Hawaiian Koa wood face, back, sides, and neck. The instrument also boasts an elegant rope marquetry rosette and ebony wood top headstock cap with the ‘Leonardo Nunes’ decal. Top and back ebony wood binding for added elegance. Bridge pin set up for crisp clean notes all the way up the neck. Original slotted-headstock geared tuners.

The instrument remains set up as a Hawaiian lap steel guitar. This was its original set up, hence the reverse orientation on the tuners facing upwards. Very rich and full tones all the way up the neck. A very rare instrument and incredible players guitar from one of Hawaii’s most recognized vintage ukulele makers, Leonardo Nunes Guitars and Ukuleles.
