Custom Barron River Baritone Ukulele

New. Custom Barron River Baritone Ukulele handcrafted by Allen McFarlen of Cairns, Australia. An incredible piece of functional art from one of Australia’s most foremost luthiers of custom ukuleles.

Allen is a master at his craft and utilizes wood species that are not only aesthetically pleasing and beautiful in tone. A true testament to his understanding of various wood species, he often incorporates woods that are unique to his geographical location or other exotic woods – which prove to be some of the most unique woods from around the world. This beautiful custom Barron River baritone ukulele was handcrafted with several upgrades in woods; premium Ringed Gidgee wood back and sides with a Roasted Sitka Spruce soundboard. Often compared to Hawaiian Koa and Tasmanian Blackwood, Gidgee wood, an Australian hardwood from the Acacia cambagei species, is prized for its exceptional hardness and density, making it a unique and sought-after tonewood for guitars and ukuleles. Roasted Sitka spruce, also known as torrefied or baked Sitka spruce, is a type of spruce wood that has undergone a specialized heating process to alter its properties and sound. This process, called torrefaction, involves roasting the wood in an oven at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen. This treatment mimics the aging process, giving the wood a vintage-like tone and enhanced stability.

In addition, this beautiful ukulele boasts a body design that is slightly thinner than typical body designs for a baritone ukulele yet it possesses all the projection, warmth, and sustain expected from a standard baritone ukulele. A truly wonderful and well-thought-out design. Elegant Barron River mother-of-pearl headstock inlay on ebony at the head. Australian blackwood top and back binding with scoup cutaway, matching Australian blackwood rosette in Nouveau style, and mother-of-pearl position markers inlaid on positions 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12. The instrument has a 12-fret joint to the body, giving it a very sweet tone and 17 overall frets to the soundhole. Sapele wood neck for added stability and transference of the vibrations back into the soundbox of the instrument. Musician’s grade ebony fretboard and bridge. Finished with a beautiful satin gloss polyurethane finish. Strap buttons installed on the neck and at the butt of the instrument, this ukulele is ready to go!

Wonderful tonal qualities. A fantastic warm and balanced tone with exceptional clarity and perfect intonation as well. A highly sought-after custom ukulele with an attention to detail that is some of the finest in the ukulele world. Highly recommended and at a price point that very attractive for a full custom ukulele. #250028
