Custom Wiemer Tenor Ukulele

Circa 2021. Preowned. Excellent condition. Custom Jeb Wiemer Tenor Ukulele handcrafted on Oahu, HI. Jeb was born in Hawaii and lived in the continental USA for a number of years before returning back the islands. Once he returned to Hawaii, he met Noa Bonk of Ko’olau Guitars and Ukuleles – where he learned the art of ukulele luthiery and apprenticed for several years before starting his own company Wiemer Guitars and Ukuleles in 2011.

This beautiful Jeb Wiemer tenor ukulele was handcrafted of rare Hawaiian Milo wood wood face, back, and sides that was harvested on the island of Oahu. Hawaiian Milo wood, also known as the Hawaiian Rosewood of the islands, is a coastal growing tree and a prized local hardwood. It is sought after by woodworkers of all sorts in Hawaii but among the luther community, sourcing quarter sawn sets is tremendously difficult since the Milo tree does not grow to be very large and often possesses wood rot in the center – being a tree that grows near the shoreline. It is an excellent wood for instruments, being in the family of rosewoods, and was prized by early Hawaiians second only to Kou, to make food bowls (ʻumeke milo), poi calabashes, platters (pā milo), and dishes. The bark was also used as cordage, while the fruits produce a yellowish green dye, medicine, oil, and gum. Milo was considered a sacred tree and the use prohibited by commoners. Today, the wood is still fashioned into beautiful items such as carvings, bowls and platters since it is widely known for its dense nature and beautiful aesthetic properties. Among the wood varieties in Hawaii it is one that is highly regarded for possessing some of the most unique color variations and patters of all of the endemic woods found in Hawaii.

This beautiful ukulele also boasts a Hawaii-grown Cuban Mahogany wood neck, Macassar ebony wood fretboard and bridge with a matching Hawaiian Milo wood headstock plate. The top and back binding was crafted of curly Hawaiian Koa wood with a matching curly Hawaiian Koa wood bound fretboard in keeping with the theme of the instrument.  Side sound port for monitor like experience, abalone shell rosette, and a slight radius on the fingerboard for ease of play in higher positions on the neck. 14 fret joint to body overall 21 overall frets and position markers inlaid on 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 for quick reference. High gloss finish on the body and neck of the instrument. Curly Hawaiian Koa wood end graft with strap button at the butt of the instrument and neck strap button for a shoulder strap.  Black Gotoh 4:1 professional geared tuners for quick and precise tuning.
