Circa 2020. Extremely beautiful custom Lichty baritone ukulele handcrafted by Jay Lichty of Lichty Guitars in Tyron, NC. Jay handcrafts a stunningly beautiful instrument with tones that are nothing short of a true custom ukulele.
This beautiful Custom Lichty Baritone Ukulele was handcrafted from Honduran Mahogany wood on the back and sides with an Engelmann Spruce soundboard. The Honduran Mahogany has been tinted to give it a more depth and a regal feel. Honduran Mahogany is known for its sweet spot mid-range frequency and is known to be a mid-range powerhouse. It’s also prized for volume, balance and articulation, making it one of the best all around tonewoods there is. Honduran Mahogany yields a crisp fundamental sound, with a pleasing bloom of mid-range overtones. This makes for a very clean and direct sound, that is described as focused, dry, woody, and warm. Engelmann Spruce is often considered a good substitute for European spruce, possessing a good fundamental and open sound with excellent clarity with a wonderful overall response. This wood combination makes for an amazing instrument tonally. The fretboard and bridge are handcrafted of musician’s grade East-Indian Rosewood with a matching tinted Honduran Mahogany neck for added stability. Gorgeous hand cut paua shell rosette and classic ‘L’ logo for aesthetic appeal. Mother-of-pearl position marker inlays on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, and 17 for quick reference when playing. A very nice touch aesthetically. Hawaiian Koa wood top and back binding with a matching Hawaiian Koa wood rosette for a subtle but elegant contrast with the hues of the tinted Honduran Mahogany wood body and Engelmann spruce top. Shallow venetian cutaway enabeling the player to reach into the higher positions with relative ease and minimal impact to the cubic square feet in the sound box itself. Side sound port for a monitor like experience when playing and a slotted headstock with matching tinted Honduran Mahogany wood headstock veneer in keeping with the theme of the instrument. Top, side, and fretboard black-white-black purfling lines are a few more wonderful amenities that attest to the functional beauty of a Lichty ukulele. Bone nut and saddle. High gloss nitrocellulose finish. Professional Gotoh Stealth geared tuners for precise and smooth tuning.
Absolutely amazing tones and a true joy to play. This instrument is a world-class recording level instrument with excellent projection, sustain, and clarity. A classic warm baritone sound from a phenomenal luthier, Jay Lichty. Very easy to play all the way up the neck. Great for picking or strumming. Highly recommended! ID#200093
