Custom Pegasus Tenor Ukulele

2017. Custom ukuleles by Pegasus Ukuleles. Beautiful New Pegasus 4-String Tenor Ukulele handcrafted in the traditional shape by luthier Bob Gleason of  Kurtistown, HI. Bob handcrafts some of not only the most aesthetically pleasing ukuleles available on the market but also professional recording level instruments for both the professional musician and recreational player.

Built in the classic shape rather than the traditional shape, the classic shape has a more rounded lower bout. The top is handcarved from master grade Redwood, for a warm tone with great clarity and the back and sides are of the coveted Brazilian Rosewood, one of the world’s finest tone woods available on the market.  Gorgeous curly Hawaiian Koa wood top and back binding, with a matching Koa wood end graph and bound fretboard, all handpicked on the Island of Hawai`i. The neck has been carved from Honduras mahogany and includes a truss rod for added structural integrity and sustain. The fretboard has been slightly radiused for ease of play on the wrist angle of the player and is crafted of Hawaiian Kolohala wood, or ‘Pheasant wood’, adding to the comfort of play in the higher positions on the neck. Matching Hawaiian Kolohala wood bridge. Gorgeous abalone rosette, top purling, and matching position markers on the fretboard. The heel cap also has a hand-cut piece of abalone shell for aesthetic appeal. A gorgeous tropical Hawaiian Heliconia inlay on the headstock, Ohi’a lehua inlay on the fingerboard, and a hand carved Monsterra leaf on the neck attest to the natural beauty and flora of Hawai’i island. All the inlay is either solid abalone shell or resconstructed stone. No laminates were used. The tuners are Grover gold mini-Rotomatics geared tuners with black buttons for precise tuning. Dovetail accessible through 15th fret slot, titebond aliphatic glue for all wood joints. Cyanoacrylate for shell inlay. Vinyl sealer and nitrocellulose lacquer top coats for glossy finish.

The Brazilian rosewood back and sides, combined with the redwood top, give this instrument a deep resonant tone. The radial bracing also helps enhance the depth of tone. Nice crisp and clean tones all the way up the neck. Deep lows with a nice balanced mid-rage and crispy high notes as well. The tones are absolutely wonderful on this piece ~ very chocolately and complex all the way up the neck with excellent clarity, wonderful sustain and excellent projection as well.

All of Bob’s ukuleles are meticulously crafted from the finest materials and with stunning attention to detail. They are amongst the most sought after ukuleles and yet some of the most difficult to acquire. A true work of art aesthetically with some of the cleanest luthiery techniques employed by the 21st century ukulele luthier. Any Pegasus Ukulele is a tough find but this one is even that much more special being handcrafted of Brazilian Rosewood.
