Custom Kula Tenor Ukulele

A work of art! Beautiful custom tenor Kula ukulele handcrafted by master luthier Crist Pung of the Big Island, HI. Crist handcrafts very unique aesthetically pleasing ukuleles that also play wonderfully for both the weekend musician and recreational player.

This wonderful custom tenor ukulele is crafted from a gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with a master grade Adirondack spruce top, which has added wonderful clarity and a balanced mid-range and high notes to the ukulele. The Brazilian Rosewood, world renowned for its full low end range, also gives a greater depth to the overall sound of the instrument. Musicians grade Ebony wood fretboard, bridge, and head-plate.  Hawaiian curly Koa wood top and back binding and a matching curly Koa wood bound fingerboard and bound headstock. Stylish matching Hawaiian curly Koa wood end graph at the butt of the instrument. White purfling lines on the face, back, and sides with a matching purfling lines on the fingerboard and headstock. The neck is carved from Honduran mahogany wood with a Hawaiian Mango wood and wenge stringer with a classy diamond volute. 14 frets to the body and 19 overall frets to the soundhole.  Vintage bone nut and saddle, mother of pearl side dots, professional open-geared Waverly tuners with Koa wood knobs for precise tuning, abalone or ‘paua’ shell rosette and hand cut inlay for the position markers on 3, 5, 7, 10, 12. Position 12 has an added red abalone inlay for quick reference with brass bullseye side markers and position 15 has an elegant ‘Kula’ inlay hand cut in gold.

The rosette inlay theme for the piece is of a Hawaiian sunset as it slowly sets behind a palm tree. Off in the distance lies the silhouette of Mt. Mauna Kea, one of the worlds’ most active volcanoes.

Wonderful depth of tones from this wood combination with mid-range and high tones from the Adirondack spruce top. Excellent sustain and projection and a true joy to play. The instrument is also very well center balanced which makes for a very comfortable instrument as you cradle it up against your body. A wonderful piece for professional musicians, weekend giggers, and the uke-lover at heart!
