(Circa 2013). A beautiful Custom Mako Tenor Ukulele handcrafted on the island of Maui by luthier Dennis Kato. This one was just completed and is absolutely stunning in appearance but plays even better than it looks!

This gorgeous Custom Mako ‘Shark’ Tenor Ukulele is handcrafted of quarter-sawn curly Hawaiian Koa wood back and sides with a Western Cedar soundboard with excellent clarity and a warm tone. The piece also boasts a Gaboon Ebony fretboard with a Macassar Ebony bridge and headstock veneer. Brazilian Ebony fingerboard binding for a smooth glide up and down the neck.  Solid Maui-grown mahogany wood neck and graphite rod insert for added stability and sustain. The top and back binding is crafted with Brazilian Ebony wood with an elegant b-w-b purfling lines on back and sides for aesthetic appeal. The fretboard is radiused for added comfort on the wrist angle when playing high up on the neck. Gorgeous mother-of-pearl and paua shell position markers with ‘shark eye’ marker on position 17. The soundboard has a ‘paua’ abalone shell purfling and special ‘Mako’ headstock inlay for elegant appeal. Matching abalone ‘paua’ shell inlay on fretboard and headstock. Abalone ‘paua’ shell and mother-of-pearl hues for triple-bound rosette. Stunning Mako shark ‘tail’ slotted-headstock with professional Gotoh slotted-headstock machine tuners for precise tuning. Maui deer antler nut and saddle and a high-gloss finish with a sound that rings true ‘Hawaii’. The lower bout of the soundboard has also been domed to a radius of approximately 25′. Fingerboard has a radius of 20″. Spanish heel construction. Flatter neck shape with a less rounded taper to the fingerboard.

This beauty really sings and has excellent volume and sustain. Crisp and balanced tones all the way up the neck with a nice warm tone from the Western Cedar. Some minor blemishes in the finish on the soundboard that have been touched up. ID#:180168
