Custom Pu’uwai Tenor Ukulele

Beautiful custom tenor ukulele handcrafted by master luthier and Pastor Woodley White of Na’alehu on the Big Island of Hawaii. Woodley has been handcrafting some of the finest classical guitars available on the market for over 20 years and all from the picturesque views of the Ocean View coastline near the southernmost tip of the island. Incorporating his knowledge and understanding of guitar luthiery in to each ukulele commission, Woodley utilizes the finest materials and aspires to “raise each player to a new level of sound, playability, and beauty.”

This wonderful custom Ukulele Pu`uwai, or “Heart” ukulele, is crafted from a gorgeous Sitka spruce wood top with a rare African Blackwood back and sides, Ebony wood fretboard and bridge, and a Cocobolo wood top and back binding with a stylish matching Ebony wood headstock plate. The neck is carved from toon wood for added stability and the soundboard has elegant black-white purfling lines for a classy appeal. Gorgeous paua shell rosette with matching soundboard paua shell inlay and mother-of-pearl fretboard position markers for easy identification on positions 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12. Bone nut and saddle and a water-base finish. The instrument also boasts a single side sound ports for monitor like projection and a slotted headstock.

Rich and complex tones with excellent sustain, clarity, and projection. The instrument is just a tad heavier than most but that is due in part to the density of the African Blackwood itself. But you should know, this uke is one of the best sounding that I’ve ever heard Woodley make. Excellent clarity, sustain, and note separation with a wide breath of tones up and down the neck. The instrument is very well balanced tonally all the way up the neck and spot on intonation as well. Highly recommended player piece and a remarkable price with only a couple of minor imperfections in the finish. This instrument went virtually unplayed but it has a sound that just calls to you.
