Vintage Kamaka ‘Painted’ Pineapple Ukulele – ‘Painted Pineapple’. Beautiful and extremely rare Kamaka painted pineapple ukulele from the late 1920s. This gorgeous piece is handcrafted from Hawaiian Koa wood top, back, and sides combination from the only company whose name is synonymous with ukulele, Kamaka.
This special run of painted pineapple ukuleles are amongst the most desirable and collectible Kamaka ukuleles to have been made and they were considered the custom order instruments of Kamaka’s yesteryear and extremely limited in number. It is also said that the pineapple design was the very model that help to sustain the company through the Great Depression years.
Urban legend says that the first 50 pineapple ukuleles were the only ones to be hand-painted and it is estimated that there are only a few of these left to be in existence. Here is one in wonderful example of a true historical piece in restored condition with one repaired hairline on the soundboard of the instrument. The restoration was done professionally with the utmost care and cleated on the inside to add stability to the repair.
This historical instrument plays absolutely wonderfully with very warm and pronounced tones. Excellent projection and sustain and great clarity. Classic Kamaka sound from the 1920s and a prized centerpiece for ukulele collectors and fans across the world.
