Stunning 1974 Custom Kamaka Tiple (10-string) Ukulele handcrafted by Samuel Kamaka himself forty years ago and was fully refurbished by the custom shop at Kamaka ukuleles in 2014. The entire instrument was rebuilt, complete with full upgrades to the Koa wood and a mahogany neck for added stability and sustain.
This beautiful Custom Kamaka tiple ukuleles is truly a gorgeous piece and was handcrafted of master grade Hawaiian curly Koa wood on the face, back, and sides. A rosewood fingerboard and bridge, a musician’s choice over the koa wood fingerboard and bridges of tiples of yesteryear, is a wonderful attribute that adds to the structural integrity of the instrument. Honduras mahogany neck for added stability and increased sustain and a black-white-black top purfling line with a single black purfling line on the back of the instrument. An elegant Hawaiian mango wood top and back binding with matching mango wood rosette and a blonde Hawaiian curly koa wood headstock plate that marry the entire theme of this stunning piece.
Tiple ukuleles are not production made instruments but full custom pieces and were, upon occasion, ordered by musicians here in Hawaii. These instruments are also closely connected with the hula communities and Hawaiian music and are considered to be more accompanying instruments rather than soloist pieces. Kamaka tiples are truly wonderful historic instruments that are tremendously difficult to locate. They are strung with steel strings and the ten string set up provides wonderful clarity and depth to each note. Now you can own a piece of history from Hawaii’s most famous luthier, Samuel Kamaka.
