Eric handcrafts a select number of instruments per year using only the finest grade of woods and materials available. The body of this gorgeous custom DeVine tenor ukulele is handcrafted with master grade and extremely rare Hawaii-grown Cuban mahogany wood face, back, and sides. Cuban mahogany is amongst the most prized mahogany wood in the world since it is considered commercially extinct. This wood was brought to Hawaii during the mid-19th century and was over-harvested in Cuba leading to its near extinction. The limited availability of this wood has caused prices to be substantially higher in cost than master grade Hawaiian Koa wood sets and tonally; it is remarkable; very rich with excellent overtones and chocolately in nature. Being a more dense wood than Koa, Cuban mahogany also lends itself to added clarity, sustain, and projection when in the hands of a skilled luthier such as Eric DeVine.
In keeping with the theme of the instrument a solid Cuban mahogany wood neck has been hand carved with a graphite rod insert for added stability and increased sustain of the ukulele. Ebony fingerboard and bridge and a special Bamboo themed inlay of maple wood has been meticulously inlaid on the fingerboard, soundboard, and lower bout of the side of the instrument for aesthetic appeal. Gorgeous blond curly Koa wood top and back binding with a matching bound fretboard for ease of play up and down the neck. Bone nut and saddle.
